In today’s world it is easy to lose yourself in different aspects of your life. It may be any of the main quadrants of life whether emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical. No matter your struggles make sure to be true to yourself because you owe it yourself. It is easy to tunnel vision on one aspect of our life for a limited time period due to circumstances, but you need to snap out of it and see the bigger picture. Never let your identity be determined by one thing. Don’t just be a worker, or a husband, or a gym goer, or an artist, do it all and be yourself. You need to truly reflect what do you want to be remembered as when you leave this Earth, our time on this floating rock is so limited. To truly leave a mark, we need to leave a positive impression and be of service of others. Be remembered for who you were and not what avenue in life you took and what you did.

When I was younger, I developed an addictive personality, I’d say mainly because of depression. If I made a new friend group, I would gear my life around them and talking to them. When I started training 7 days a week my whole life was sport. When I started taking university seriously, I conditioned myself to thinking, breathing, and dreaming about academia and my career. None of these pursuits are healthy, be yourself and give everything its place in your life just like pieces in a puzzle. True success is balance and a stable, organized life. Keep these concepts in mind, they have helped me find equilibrium in various aspects of life, such as work, relationships, hobbies, and personal time.

Prioritize self care

I read a quote the other day that said, “If you cannot control what you put into your body, what can you control?” They say look good to feel good but do not take that as a benchmark. Train and eat well to maintain good long term health and avoid brain fog. That increase in confidence will move mountains for you whenever you walk into a room. People will take someone more seriously if that person is disciplined enough to take themselves and their health serious. On top of that, do things you enjoy and do not be afraid to say no to plans you don’t want to commit to, things you don’t want to do and people you don’t want to see. It’s your life and trust your gut and intuition, don’t feel pressured into anything and be firm to set boundaries. Read books and expand your mind also, it will do wonders for you long term.

Cultivating Gratitude

Grateful by default is something I always love to say. In a world riddled with problems, so many humans are suffering, so you are always living someone else’s dream. Be grateful for the good and for the bad in your life and take everything as an opportunity. Every problem and every triumph is an opportunity to learn, grow, understand and become better. Get used to saying thank you and treat those around you with love and respect, everyone is going through something and is undergoing their own journey in the world.

Pursuing Balance

Word hard play hard is a known concept by everyone but to break it down, don’t let one part of your life bleed into the other too much. Do not let work affect relationships, do not let training affect work, do not let your spiritual journey affect training and so on they all intertwine. Give everything the time it deserves and become multi-dimensional, and you will feel the right balance. Experiment with time and commitment and your priorities will fall into place.

Overcome self doubt

Practice goal setting to cement your goals in life and the challenges you face. It is such a life hack to tackle tough days and weeks when trying to re-organize your life and create a balance. Embrace a growth mindset and practice positive self-talk. Do not let your mind trick you into comparing your life to others or over blowing an awkward moment into something it isn’t. Try to shut down your overthinking as much as possible. Give every situation the time it deserves and try to flow through life, do not bring work troubles home, and vice versa. Ensure you positively affirm to yourself you are good enough and even say it out loud, it helps. Remember before you take on any new adventure, other people have done it and so can you. Walk into a new room confident with your head up and understand we all have our own battles.

Pursue your passions

Take more risks, just because you work a 9-5 or have a family doesn’t mean you’re barred from exploring your passions. It is never too late and a lot of successful people in many endeavours start late. We had a white belt at the gym begin training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of 52, it is never too late. Allocate time in your days or weeks to really put in some focused work on your hobbies and passions and little by little fit them into your schedule and life. Life is not worth living if you shun your passions because of the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. And never care what people think, whether you fail or succeed people will either support you or they won’t. But reality is whatever decision you make, the time will pass anyway. So start today and really give yourself time and pursue your passions, your future self will thank you.

Hopefully you found some of these concepts helpful in this journey we call life. I pray that you succeed in everything you aim to do, work hard, and do not let setbacks demotivate you. The world rewards those who keep going, so never stand still and balance out your life and become who you are destined to be. There is also nothing wrong with living a simple life, but the simplest life is a balanced one. If you are trying to reset your life or are struggling to find time for any aspect of your career, hobby, or relationships, try splitting your life into 4 quadrants. These are emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental. Once you break down each quadrant and what it means to you and what it contains, try use these concepts to create balance. I first learned this concept from the book “The 5am Club” it was more geared towards morning routines, but I noticed it can be used for creating balance in the bigger picture of life.

All the Best
